2009 may have been the start of a vampire film trend that continues into 2010 without a lapse. Watch Daybreakers online to see what the first entry of the year will be. It’s no Twilight, but it still could be a film worth seeing.

Daybreakers is written and directed by brothers Peter and Michael Spierig. They already have a sizeable following stemming from a previous film, Undead, about a world overrun by zombies. That movie was a limited release in the US back in 2005, with less than stellar reviews. If you’re one of the former, watch Daybreakers online first before you judge it by Undead standards.

How far they have come may be a matter of dollars and cents, if you judge by what you see when you watch Daybreakers online. One can only hope, of course, that the poor quality of Undead was a result of a tight budget.It is unlikely that anyone’s talent, at least in so far as writing and directing, can improve this much over just a few years. The leap from the remote zombie-filled fish town in Undead to the futuristic vampire-run anarchy depicted when you watch Daybreakers online takes more than talent to produce on screen.

Neither is a cast like this one. In the short amount of time it takes to watch Daybreakers online, you’ll see some familiar faces. Ethan Hawke appears to be a grown-up version of the teenage vampire we’re all overdosing on at the moment.

Watch Daybreakers online and you’ll also see a Rambo-esque Wilem Dafoe playing a human/vampire/human-again character. Exactly why he has it and what he plans to do with it remains to be seen. Sam Neill makes it worth the time it takes to watch Daybreakers online, if only for that incredibly evil grin.

Daybreakers looks to be a huge step up from Undead, at least for American audiences. It may be extremely unfair, though, to watch Daybreakers online and then presume to compare the two films based only on the merit of the first.At best, this could be the darker side of a Twilight future.
